We had a great Thanksgiving break this year, even if we both spent much of it working on various school projects. For Thanksgiving breakfast I made some delicious cheese filled blintzes. Because blintzes take so long to make they tend to be a special treat. For those of you not familiar with blintzes- they are crepes filled with cottage cheese and cream cheese, sautéed in butter, and served with blueberry sauce and sour cream- at least that’s the recipe I have for them.

For our Thanksgiving meal we went to one of our favorite restaurants, a restaurant we go to so often it practically feels like home. We had butternut squash soup, goat cheese tart, turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, kale, cranberry sauce, lemon tart and a chocolate pecan tart. It was delicious. (Just so there is no confusion, I didn't actually eat any of the turkey, but saved mine for Adrien to have as leftovers)

Friday we took a short trip upstate to get away from the city a bit. The fall colors came late this year, which was lucky for us because the fall foliage was amazingly beautiful. We drove up the Hudson River stopping at a historic house that was styled after the colonial period.

We then continued on to visit one of my favorite dairy farms- Ronnybrook. We have been buying their milk, yogurt, ice cream, and butter ever since we got to New York. The farm is very small, and they don’t have any kinds of tours. So we just drove up, got out and wandered around looking at the very happy seeming cows and looking in the windows of the fairly small buildings where they milk the cows and process the milk. The best part was the line of baby cows having dinner.

After frolicking with the cows we drove south to our hotel in Poughkeepsie, NY. The mid-size hotel sat of the edge of a quaint stream and had the best view out the window. After settling in we had some dinner at a near by Italian restaurant and spent the evening doing schoolwork in our room. The next morning was also consumed by schoolwork, but at least we had the wonderful view from our hotel room.
On the drive out of town we stopped and walked around Vassar College- a lovely campus, with incredibly varied architecture. One of my favorite fall foliage trees from the trip was found on the campus of Vassar.
