Today was our last day in Amsterdam and our first in Paris. While still in Amsterdam we had a breakfast of pancakes, with Adrien having the “Dutch breakfast.”

After breakfast we walked about the city, did some shopping and went to the Amsterdam Historical Museum. We spent our last hour in at the hotel bar, getting out bags and having a beer. One of the reasons I like Europe is that I can get small beers- that are sized just right for me. This is my beer next to Hart’s.

Adrien and I then headed off for our four-hour train ride to Paris. The ride went by quickly, we ate the sandwiches bought at the train station, watched TV shows on my laptop, and napped. Getting to our hotel was easy. Having lived in New York for the last couple of years means we are so much more used to figuring out and riding on subway systems. Here in Paris we are staying in a wonderful little apartment that Adrien found online. It’s in an area that’s too touristy for our liking, but our apartment is surprisingly quite. And the location is fantastic. We are only about a five-minute walk from Notre-Dame.

When we got into the apartment Adrien looked out the window and commented with no irony, “oh look at the nice little garden we have outside.” Clearly in New York we are starved to have any sort of outdoor space of our own.

After settling into our apartment we took a walk around the neighborhood. We also had a small memorial service for Adrien’s grandfather who sadly passed away this week. It was not possible to make it back in time for the funeral, so we honored his life and death by placing freshly picked flowers on the Holocaust Memorial near our apartment here. We will both miss him dearly.
